Rugs are the foundation of a space, they ground your furniture, create warmth and comfort. When choosing we have to consider the shape, size, style and materials. In this post we will focus on different rug materials and their uses.
- Wool: The most common type mainly chosen for its comfort and durability. It is stain resistant, durable and easy to clean. Best used for high traffic areas.
- Cotton: Soft and comfortable as well, easy to wash but not as durable. It’s used in areas where the rugs get replaced often or seasonally.
- Synthetic Fibers: Also good for high traffic areas, usually made of polyester or a blend fiber. It’s cost affordable, machine washable, and there are many options for styles, colors and patterns.
- Hide: Used occasionally as an accent. Although synthetic options are available, usually a hide is made of a full sized animal hide, or several stitched together to create the shape desired. There are many options to choose from and can be dyed into any color of your liking, check out Kyle Bunting 😉
- Jute or Natural Fibers: Great for laying with other rugs. It’s an inexpensive option, while bringing in texture, and dimension with its shapes and patterns. Durable in fibers but not as easy to clean, it’s also not as noticeable when it does get dirty.
- Silk: My absolute favorite! Like wool the possibilities for designs, patterns and mixing fibers are endless. These rugs scream luxury! They are considered high end, expensive, but so smooth and give off this silky shine. When going custom using different pile heights allows room to create remarkable patterns and designs.
